Great quiet fan with innocuous looks
I bought this fan for my living room. I wanted something that would blend into the ceiling because the other colors and lights in the living room were already "obvious". I'm using this with the white side of the blades down and a 3-speed in-wall control with no light kit and no chains hanging down from the fan.The fan is fantastic--I've had it for about 4 months and it's completely silent, even on the high setting. It has no hint of wobble and mounts relatively close to the ceiling, unlike some other fans that have a bit more of a drop rod.I bought 5 new ceiling fans this year, so I have something to compare this too and I love this fan, especially for the low price.
Quality built and quiet
Very impressed with this fan. Installed yesterday in my bedroom. Some fans hum when powered on. This is quiet. The fan does not wobble on the highest speed. Have a Hampton Bay in a different room. It wobbles and hums. Will only buy Hunter brand ceiling fans in the future.
Great Fan
I bought this fan because I already have one of this model and like it.Its simple, trouble free, easy to install and moves air.If thats what you want, not a lot of extras, this is the fan for you.

Tiny fan, moves a lot of air
This fan works great! I installed it last night. It spins very quickly on its highest setting, and it moves a lot of air for its size. The bulb socket is a miniature Edison base rated at 65W, so it may be a bit dim for larger rooms.I hooked this fan up to a fan/light control switch on the wall, so I wanted to remove the pullchains. To do so, perform the following BEFORE MOUNTING THE FAN and AT YOUR OWN RISK:* Remove the three screws that hold the light socket over the housing, and pull open the cover.* There are a bunch of wires and wire nuts that attach the fan speed pullchain, fan direction switch, and light pullchain together.* Unscrew the fan speed pullchain switch and the light pullchain switch. Yank all the wires out of both switches.* The black and blue wires go straight through the fan to the other side - they're coming directly from the source.* To bypass the light pullchain, connect the blue wire to the black wire of the light...
Great Size - Noisy
If you are purchasing this just based on the size and appearance, the fan is great. I think the thing is noisy and has a constant low level hum. I have 4 other Hunter fans in my home and all are extremely quiet - Unfortunately, this was the only one I could find in this small size so I was limited to Westinghouse. It went into my daughter's room and she says that I am the only one to notice the hum so I guess it's OK for 50 bucks.
NOT NOISY
I am surprised by the noisy comment. I installed this fan in my daughters bedroom and I hardly notice it's on. It has worked out quite well and the instructions were great.

Excellent Buy
This ceiling fan is an excellent buy for the money. I was pleasantly suprised at how it looked after I installed it in my Living Room. I have read the other reviews about the fan making noise, so I was a bit skeptical about buying it, but I bought it anyways. Boy I am glad I did! This is a really good looking ceiling fan. Gives the room a classy, but not too flashy look. Every person who has come to the house after I installed this has complimented on it. As far as noise, I experienced none. Just make sure when you put the blades together with the arms, make certain that the screws are good and tight. I used a cordless DeWalt drill with the torque setting set low to #12 to assure a good tight fit. I actually was so impressed with the looks and operation of this fan that I immeadiately went back to amazon.com and bought another fan exactly like this one, for my kitchen. Same review - absolutely no problems, none whatsoever. Shipping was very fast with the free super saver...
Easy install and quiet!
I have installed several ceiling fans in the past, but the people at Westinghouse really made the install easy with their fan. Unlike most fans which require you to hold the fan motor up while wiring it in, Westinghouse put a separate plug on their motor. You wire up the plug to the home outlet, then lift the motor up. Could not be easier. It took 30 minutes total to install. The fan is very quiet during operation. The fan output is also very impressive.I am very happy with the fan and would highly recommend it.
A few things you might like to know
1. This is a 3-speed-plus "off" fan with a reverse-direction switch and an attached light assembly. Both can be controlled by pull cords if desired.2. The instructions are adequate, but assume knowledge of safe wiring and connection practices. This is not an absolute beginner's project, though if you have any successful experience in house wiring, you can probably do this.3. For planning purposes, the complete job (removing old fixture and installing fan and light unit) took me a little over 2 1/2 hours. I am a careful and methodical amateur. You are working at the top of a ladder in awkward positions, so there is a high likelihood of dropping screws. If you are working over a deep pile carpet, put down a drop cloth or you will wish you had!4. Westinghouse needs better quality control. There was a missing wire nut in the fan interface wiring which was instantly obvious, and there weren't anywhere near enough metal washers for the fan blade...

Best ceiling fan at ANY price
After a month of 24/7 use, I now have some experience. By far the best ceiling fan at any price. At $55, it moves more air and looks more contemporary & sleeker than any $500 designer fan. Same fan as the brushed nickel model so read those reviews as well. Set to the lowest speed, it moves as much air as some residential fans move at their highest speed.I have it mounted above my bed. On the highest speed, it moves so much air it blows the Sunday paper apart & off the bed. Standard installation will lower the fan blades almost 2 ft so if you have 8ft ceilings, it's too dangerous for residential installation. The blades are metal, move at an incredible speed & could probably slice a tomato. You do not want them clipping your hand. BUT ... the down rod can easily be cut in half (with only modification being to drill a new cross mounting hole in the rod, keeping the blades safely above 7ft. Have never had to sleep with the fan set to "high" but the dogs love...

how expensive and difficult is it to install a ceiling light/fan where there currently is not a light nor fan?

Mar 19, 2007 by asmith_629 | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs

I would like to have a ceiling fan installed in my new apartment. However there is currently no ceiling fan or even a light. I am wondering if anyone knows around about what it might cost me to have a wiring ran so that this would be possible. Thanks

It is totally dependent on the constrution of your apt., and where you live. Average labor from a Lic. Contractor in the U.S. runs around $140.00 for the first hour, $90.00 an hr. for each hour thereafter. Parts and wires should run around $3-4 a ft.

On Suction

Source: Just Central Vacuums

A vacuum cleaner is basically an air moving device, in the same category as a hair dryer or a ceiling fan. In fact, Murray Spangler, who in 1907 invented what was to become “The Hoover Suction Sweeper”, used a ceiling fan with its blades cut down as the heart of his invention. The origin of amperage as a vacuum cleaner rating was when manufacturers would take a given vacuum design and install motors which ran at different speeds (and thus drew greater or In this article I hope to take some of the measurements used in the vacuum industry and explain what they mean, and how they connect to the actual purpose of a vacuum cleaner, that is, “sucking up dirt”. Any device that uses electrical power uses a certain amount of amps – there is no direct connection to air movement....
