Ceiling fan remote control with thermostat
We have two of these (Hampton Bay) remote controls. They are connected to Hunter fans and have provided years of problem free service. We are about to buy a third control for a fan in the living room that will finally get a light kit.On the rarest of occasions, the temperature in the room will be marginally in the "go" zone and nothing happens; that is, the fan should start turning according to the thermostat setting but it doesn't start soon enough to suit the occupant(s). This is easily fixed by grabbing the remote and adjusting the set temperature by a degree. The "being stuck" is a rare occurrence and will fix itself if left alone. For the most part, the fan starts and stops when it should. Sometimes, this happens many times an hour when the temperature in the room is in that marginal zone; we ignore it and let it do whatever it wants and at some point the room either warms or cools so the fan runs faster or turns itself off.Sometimes the fan runs...
'Ghosts' in the remote turn lights on and off randomly
We built our house back in 2004 and installed the hampton bay thermostatic ceiling fan and light remote control 838-956.I want to love this and give it five stars but can't. Here's why.We have two fans with ceiling light kits installed and two of the Hampton Bay 838-956's mounted.Actually, we have three but the third one doesn't have a light kit. However, the two that do, about every two minutes, automatically turn on the lights in the ceiling fan light kit for about 20 secondsand then shut off for roughly the next two minutes. There is no way to stop this.I have called Home Depot's 'Hampton Bay' number 877-527-0313. Very helpful but so far, no answer.I'm going nuts with this.We have a home theater in our Great Room and, if we turn on the fans while watching a movie on our movie screen, its like 'ghosts' are turning on and off the lights, every two minutes.Horrible. Any ideas appreciated on how to fix the problem...
A Great Remote Ceiling Fan Control!
This complete package of the receiving unit and hand held controller is about as simple as it can be to install. If your fan didn't come with a remote control ... this will fit the bill!Key features include light and fan speed control. The light control is a sliding scale from 100% down. The fan will give you three speeds besides off. It also has a temperature sensor that allows the fan to automatically adjust the fan speed based upon room temperature ... If the room temp is considerably warmer than you set ... it will switch to high speed. As the room temp lowers ... the fan speed lowers.I wish I had one of these years ago!

Replacement Ceiling Fan Remote
Needed to replace a ceiling fan remote as a button had worn out and no longer worked. Found this online, but wasn't sure that it would work on an older fan. Was pleasantly surprised to find that it did work with some simple programming. Also found out that our fan has a dimmer for the light built in... who knew... am very happy with this purchase.
Reverse?
This new remote was easy to set-up, but my fan is a reversible model and I can't see any way to reverse the fan direction via the remote for the winter.
Works, but very flimsy
I purchased this remote at Home Depot for $32 to see if it would work on the Hampton Bay fan that was in our house when we purchased it. It did! That means we did not have to install the receiver box, it was already setup to use this remote.Has:LightsHiMedLowOffTo use the dimming function, you hold down the "light" button for a few seconds. Although the one referenced on this page says No Battery, the one from Home Depot did.I do not see this remote lasting many years, the buttons are pretty loose and it is very light.

Great price, Beautiful fan
I purchased four of these fans for my new house. My 19 year old son and I installed them. Although installation was not the easiest, by the time we got to the fourth fan it went pretty quick. The price is excellent; the fans are beautiful and they work great. They are quiet and they really move the air. Hunter is the best brand for ceiling fans. I have been using them for 25 years.
Beautiful, easy to assemble, smooth and steady
We bought two fans. They shipped and arrived sooner than expected. We assembled both fans and had them installed in less than an hour. They are very quiet and steady. The chains barely jiggle even when the blades are on high and we did not need to balance the blades. The light is soft and plenty bright. This is an excellent fan.
OKay. Just Okay...
Air movement is somewhat disappointing. I bought a couple of Hampton Bay fans for other bedrooms (same size), and the high speed is higher on them. The fan is slightly out of balance, so I will need to work on balancing it, unlike the Hampton Bay fans. It was missing the tassel ends for the chains, so I'm contacting Hunter directly on getting them. If the electrician had not already installed it, I would have returned it. Hopefully, the motor will last longer on the Hunter. It was supposed to have medium base bulbs, but it actually has candelabra base - not my favorite. In its favor, it is a very nice looking fan and it is quiet. Amazon needs to adjust its "return" policy to include shipping missing parts so you don't have to return a bulky item for a small missing part. They have no easy way to contact them regarding such issues.

Perfect fan, Perfect price!
I like this fan because it blends in with the ceiling and doesn't look like a big ugly ceiling fan with stupid looking ugly lights on it. No "fake" wooden blades. No ugly brass. It's about as "simple" as you can get, quiet as it could possibly be, and inexpensive. It is my opinion that ceiling fans should be "felt" and not seen or heard! We put this in a guest bedroom and it replaced a hideous looking LOUD "Hampton Bay" from Home Depot that was quite frankly shameful. lolMy husband did not understand why I chose no lights on it until it was installed and he could see how much nicer the room looked just with lamp lighting and no ugly fan lights.
Moves air - quietly
Replaced an older fan which was noisy and didn't move much air unless set to the highest speed (where it added vibration to the noise). The new Hunter is silent (all you can hear is the blades moving the air) and is totally vibration free without installing the balancing kit.
Attractive and functional
We bought two of these for our office and they are simply attractive, run so quietly we forget it's on, and move the air quite well on three speeds. Although not mentioned anywhere in the literature, they are wired to accept a light kit. We purchased a Hunter light kit for one of the fans, and it works perfectly.

Awesome Control!
This control is the easiest control to hookup (took less than 5 mins) and works perfectly!! It's small enough to be hidden in the ceiling fan base, and when you turn the lights on they slowly come on so your not "blinded"... I'd recommend this product to anyone who wants to remotely control their ceiling fans!!
Neat gadget
Works well with my Hunter fan. Installation was a breeze. The receiver fits well in the fan's canopy, installs horizontally above the ball attachment.Points to note:Will not work on solid state fans, meaning fans that changes speed by by energizing different coils within the motor winding by way of a selector switch (as in some older fans). This product is designed for fans that vary their speeds by changing the capacitance in the circuit.Once the unit is installed, the manual pull switch for the fan must be left in the High speed position at all times to allow speed variation via the remote. The light pull switch must also remain in the ON position. The only drawback is that you would not have manual control of your fan and lights should your remote fail. The installation guide is not well done and the illustrations are barely visible.Overall I am very pleased with this product thus far.
Works as described - no more pull chains!
General install is easy enough, and the light control is great! Directions aren't very good but if you have any electrical knowledge you'll understand fast enough. One of the fans is switched and the light setting "sticks" even when killing power via the switch to the control unit which was a nice surprise.Basically it works like this:2 hot leads in your fan, one for the light, one for the motor.Take the hot that used to go directly to them, run it to the controller marked for supply (red)White supply to white on same side as hot supply.White out to white for fan and light.Black out to the fanBlue out to the lightIn my case there was a black and a black w/white stripe in the fan (tied together) to the house current (hot). I think the white stripe was for the light but it depends on how it was wired so just trace it through the fan stalk (disconnect the light off the bottom and see what's in there, should trace all the way...

I have A Hampton Bay 52" ceiling fan installed 1986 . I trying to install a Harbor Breeze Universal Remote. I?

Nov 30, 2009 by Hunter | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs

I have wired receiver per instructions. The light works find. The fan speed is set on high. When you press the speed on the transmitter it only works on medium control. But the fan runns on low speed.
The problem was a bad remote.

If the fan has more than one speed, you need to have it set on hi speed, then use remote to select fan speeds.

Can a ceiling fan be wired to a remote if it did not come with a remote?

Oct 25, 2006 by leleighvalley | Posted in Do It Yourself (DIY)

I purchased a Hampton Bay Ceiling Fan (472-219). Separately I bought a Hampton Bay Remote. The fan did not come with a fan at all. They both allow for a light at the top, a fan and a light at the bottom. If I can wire this remote to this fan, where does

It is simmple but difficult to explain.. YOu have to have a remote control hand held of course.. and INSIDE of the unit, you have t o wire in a receptor for the r emote.. The frequency of that receptor and the hand held r eport must be on the same frequency.

Source: Industrial Ceiling Fans

this is normal - the fan will run this way if the temperature in the room is at one degree too warm. that is, the fan should start turning according to the thermostat setting but it doesn't start soon enough to suit the occupant(s). we ignore it and let it do whatever it wants and at some point the room either warms or cools so the fan runs faster or turns itself off. Running this way has never harmed the fans (our Hunters have been in our house for going on twenty years now). Sometimes the fan runs very S-l-o-w-l-y. It doesn't seem to hurt the thermostat to have to switch the fan on/off/on/off either. For the most part, the fan starts and stops when it should....
