Belt Driven Ceiling Fan - News

Keep your cool, efficiently and cheaply, with fans
The last was a 36-inch industrial-grade drum fan with a one-third horsepower belt-driven motor. First, a caveat. No fan will enable you to spend August nights under a down comforter in Biloxi, Miss. Most fans — including ceiling fans, stand fans and

Reports: Marc-Andre Bergeron, Adam Hall to return to the Lightning
If the season started today, our starting goalie has only a handful of NHL games under his belt, and the backup spent the majority of last year in the ECHL. How's that for a change in topic? :-) Glad I could help. "[The Lightning] are uncanny.

Most definitely BELT driven !!!
I do not own this particular model but if you do get a "whole house fan" then get a "Belt Driven" unit. It is so much quieter than any other model, especially the "direct drive" model. The belt of the fan takes up approximately 75% of the vibration that is inherent in all fans. Where as, the direct drive is extremely noisy by comparison, because of the same vibration. (Has no noise dampening features.) I would also make sure it is a "2 speed model with a timer and no less than a 1/3hp motor". The reason is, with the 2 speeds you can cool your home down slowly and quietly at night while sleeping or if you come home after being gone all day long and it is hot in there you can cool it down much more quickly with the high speed setting. Also, with the 1/3hp motor, it will last much longer than a 1/4hp motor. Yes, it burns a little more power but you will NOT have to replace the motor every two years or so with the larger motor. One other important thing you...
sturdy and easy to install
My wife and I are happy with the product, can feel the pull a good distance away. The hi/low switch is a little cheap looking, but works fine. Installed it with some help on top of rafters so no beam cutting involved. You do have to build a support frame for it, and the louvers have to run with the rafters, so make sure your location will work for that. As to noise, it is a whole house fan, so you get use to it, but its not something we would run all day for sure.
Info I've found from research.
First of all, read Michael's review. I went from only knowing I wanted a house fan to knowing everything I needed to know about buying one just by reading his review. Of course, for my own peace of mind, I had to cross check a few things, but everything was there. THANKS MICHAEL.Per Ventamatic installation instructions, this fan comes with the center blade on the shutter fixed, so you don't have to cut the joist.I found the Ventamatic installation instructions very clear, though I have not yet installed it. Good in general, and in particular, the framing instructions clearly differentiated between a "no cut joist" install and a "cut joist" install (your choice). ONE THING, the text is correct for cutting the facing boards, but Figures 6a and 6b are WRONG, they show the side facing boards as not being supported by the bridges. The text is correct, which tells you to cut the side facing boards 11 inches longer (so that they will be supported by the bridges)...

Great fan for the money
This is my same review as the 30" version of this fan, they are both identical except for the size of course. One star off for the cheap louvers, however there are upgraded aluminum extruded avaliable for a few dollars more. Now this is not a whisper quiet fan, it is however much quieter then the unit The Home Depot sells. You will know this fan is running so avoid placement near family/living/bedrooms. This unit comes with a high and low switch in decora style and have found it to be of good quality. Other then a set or two of louvers that got damaged during shipping I've had zero problems with all the units I have installed, and knock on wood have not had to replace a single motor. I find the motor supplied with this fan should last 10-15 years depending on how much you run the fan. I would highly avoid DIYers attempting an installation unless you have a good concept of framing and electrical as you will need to remove a joist to install this fan, the only exception...

I have a Whole House Fan that runs slow. Shutters barely pull open when turned on. Can it be fixed?

May 04, 2010 by txgm68 | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs

It is mounted in the ceiling at the top of the stairs on 2nd floor. Sucks the hot air out of the house and vents it into the attic. If I spray some WD40 onto the belt it will run faster for a few hours but eventually slows back down. It is a 24"

I would first replace the belt and see if it is any better, since it seems to get better with the WD-40. Check the belt and see if it looks worn or is cracking. When I replaced mine, The easiest way is to take it off and go go an auto parts store and have

Mint Bar in Livingston maintains authentic sense of history after modern makeover

31.12.69
Many Western towns have a bar called the Mint, Iglinski said, because it was a common name used to attract railroad workers and others who didn’t do regular business with a bank. The renovation involved saving historic elements where possible, like portions of the original metal ceiling tiles, while adding up-to-date touches that don’t look out of place, Iglinski said. Livingston’s railroad history is on full display in The Mint, where photos from the Doris Whithorn collection show many aspects of town life through the years. It was the railroad that brought early tourists to Livingston, where they stayed in the building that now houses the Mint, then known as the Yellowstone Block Hotel. Local patrons often notice familiar faces in the historic shots, Iglinski said.
