Panasonic Produces Another Quality Ventilation Fan
The Panasonic FV-11VQ5 is the newest release from Panasonic in the WhisperCeiling series of ventilation fans. Panasonic discontinued the .8 Sone, 110 CFM, FV-11VQ3 for this next-generation, enhanced version. It is essentially the same model with some minor variations, the most noticeable being a reduction in operational sound level from .8 Sone to .3 Sone. The power consumption between the two units has also been reduced from 30.7W to 21.1W (at .1 static pressure), which drops the Amperage from .26 to .18, making this unit more efficient. The FV-11VQ5 is relatively large, but a fantastic performer for the money. The rough-in cut required to mount the unit is 10-1/2" x 10-1/2". The outside grill is 13" x 13". A cardboard template is supplied to assist in drawing the physical layout of the rough-in cut on the ceiling. This greatly enhanced the ease of installation. Opening the unit, there's little that needs to be done other than remove the tape from the internal...
Its big and quiet.
I bought this for $119.99 to replace my old bathroom fan that wasn't working. I am a novice on installing something like this or doing any construction work. I don't know how its possible for anyone to install this fan from below. I have an attic and I installed the fan from there. It was not easy for me to install it. First, I had to make a hole bigger. Being an amateur at cutting hole, I made the hole a little bit too big. The instructions show 3 ways you can install the fan. I choose the first way where you use the support bracket and install 2 screws from the bottom. The second way uses 1 and 1/2 support bracket, meaning there's a long piece in the back and half a piece in the front (where the exhaust and power box is located). It seems impossible to install using the second installation instruction unless you have a big space between the joist. The third way is for small space between the joist and you are able to screw the fan from the bottom on both sides of the fan...
Excellent Quality
Once I opened the box, the superior quality of this vent over what I was used to from Broan/NuTone was readily apparent. The squirrel-cage fan is much more robust and has a much more solid feel when you spin it by hand. The smoothness of the motor is nothing like that of a Broan/NuTone vent.In 11 years that we have lived in our current house, I have replaced the NuTone vent in out master bath twice. I expect this Panasonic unit to last 20 years.I have been amazed at how the level of quality in Broan/NuTone units has dropped. My parents have two Broan ceiling mount fan forced heaters in their bathrooms. They were installed when the house was built 50 years ago. They still work perfectly and quietly. The new products from Broan/NuTone simply do not last.

Well-made fan truly is quiet
This is the third Panasonic Whisper-Quiet bathroom fan I have installed in one of my houses, and I've got to say, they are wonderful fans. Compared to the junky Broan and NuTone fans I've been replacing, these units are solidly constructed, wonderfully quiet, and worth the time and effort it takes to install them. There's a reason my unit came with a 3-year mechanical warranty and a 6-year motor warranty... these fans are built to last. And I like that I can actually hear myself think while I'm taking a shower.
very quiet
This fan is indeed very very quiet - especially compared to the one that was originally installed in the house. It was efficient but had the sonic characteristics of a NASCAR engine. The fan was simple to install. First, to find the old fan under the attic installation was a simple matter of turning it on, climbing up into the attic and locating the noise.Next, shut the old fan off at the circuit breaker box. Remove.Place the new fan in position and observe its footprint. It may be slightly larger and require cutting out a small slice of the ceiling drywall. If you've not done this before, it's no big deal. Just get an inexpensive drywall saw at any hardware or big box store. Be sure to spread a drop cloth or old sheet in the bathroom under the fan. If you have never cut dry wall before you will be astonished at the amount of dust even a short cut makes. Measure accurately for the opening size of your new fan, mark it, check your measurement...
Excellent product from a reputable manufacturer
Bought this fan (FV08VQ5) from Amazon during Xmas time and received the unit after New Year (took advantage of it's free shipping). This fan is to replace the otherwise noisy Broan Nu-Tone 80cfm fan that runs 24/7/365 in a high thermal efficiency house (built to 2004 code) to exhaust moisture and stale air, but obviously, it's more noisy than it's rated noise level (rated 1.1 sones, but I pretty much doubt it but would guess it to be around 2.0 sones or so due to motor hum).Took a bit of time to get it to fit in between the joists (older broan is about 1" square smaller in size with beam reinforcement brackets that the slide mount was spot welded in, not like Pana which is screwed in (took the screw off to undo the slide mount bracket, which was a breeze).Took a bit of time/effort to make things right before I was able to fire up the fan and wow! Was I impressed (about how low the noise level is)! With the previous Broan/Nu-Tone exhaust fan, our master bedroom...

Exhaust fans for mobile home
I needed 2 bathroom exhaust fans for a mobile home. 7" round duct that went straight up through the ceiling. Although there aren't much details listed for these, they came as pictured and described. They move enough air to hold a sheet of toilet paper to them. Install was pretty easy. Amazon was the cheapest place I found them, and I didn't find a ton of them out there either.
Fits the bill
Purchased this fan for a bath remodel because the roof sloped too much to fit an ordinary bath fan in the allotted space. Although it was specified for use mostly in trailers, I took a chance due to its measurements and was pleasantly surprised that it met all my expectations:1)It fit2)It removed enough air, and3)It was sufficiently quiet. To the seller's credit, it was also shipped very quickly.

Excellent product. I had to replace this in a rental house. If you have an installation with this type 7" diameter round fan housing, this is what you need.

Very Attractive and Easy to Install!
So you see the photo of this light/fan? See how there is no sign of the Hunter logo in the center of the glass? Well, when you get the fixture, you'll find a big white logo stenciled onto the glass. You cannot miss it. I'm giving this fixture one star unless I can somehow remove the logo. Will post an update when I've either accomplished that or ruined the glass.**UPDATE** I used nail polish remover and some Q-tips. Removed the logo perfectly. No damage to the frosted glass, it seems. I'll upgrade my review again once installed.
Why logo? Why?????
This made a world of difference compared to the cheapo builder-installed fan it replaced--much quieter. It clears the steam out nicely in my small bathroom. The electrician said it installed easily. I wish it came with plain frosted glass rather than the marble effect, but it still looks nice.

A welcome upgrade over the old noisemaker
Bought the 90 cfm/2.5 sones unit to replace the builder's grade 50 cfm/4+ sones. The additional airflow was noticeable and the noise wasn't - just what I needed. The frame is all plastic, which means no rust, though seeing how the bracket, motor, and motor mount is steel, I wouldn't place too much value on that aspect. The box is more rigid than the typical bent steel box, however, so there is value in that - no rattles.Installation was a snap - literally. These units have a separate bracket that you screw into the joist, then snap the unit into place from below. It's much easier than the usual small-flange-at-the-edge mounting that other units use. Indeed, I spent less time installing this unit versus removing the old (working in a cramped attic space, nails to pry out, etc.) A plastic grommet and 3 wire nuts are included too - a nice touch. The included materials note that ventilation fans have a 5 year warranty, not just a 1 year, so the...
Great fan, troubled installation
It took me less than 2 minutes to remove the old fan and over 2 hours to install this Air King. I am very happy with the quiet, functional fan but the design of the fan made for a difficult installation. The design of this fan could have easily been slightly different and allowed for a much easier installation. After cutting a minimum size hole, I was unable to maneuver it from above or below and get it into the snap bracket. I finally found that if I remove the connector from the body that hooks up to the hose it can be inserted from below, but you still have to go into the attic to re-attach the hose connector and hose.Had the connector been directed away from the bracket instead of to the side, it is possible it could have been installed completely from below. Now that it's installed, I do enjoy this Air King fan. The air exhaust is superior to what I had before and much quieter. It is an excellent fan.
AirKing bath fan
Yesterday I received the AirKing bath fan and decided to install it right after work. I had an old air king from 1967 which had to come out. That took me 2 hours and a mess to do. Then I realized that the original duct was only 3" in diameter while the recently purchaced AirKing was 4" in diameter. I picked up a 4" to 3" converter and snaped the whole thing together in 30 minutes! No more loud noise. I'm very happy with the New AirKing!

Bathroom ceiling fan is hooked up wrong?

Mar 09, 2007 by Annabelle | Posted in Do It Yourself (DIY)

My husband remodeled our bathroom and did not vent the ceiling fan outside , he left it just hanging out in the attic. Now the fan will not take moisture out of the bathroom. It has to be vented outside in order to work properly right?? Thanks

It needs to be vented outside to meet building codes and prevent moisture and rot in your attic.

The problem is more than likely the adapter on the fan. Every exhaust fan includes an adapter that converts a square opening to the round exhaust

Brown Powder fell from bathroom ceiling fan?

Feb 13, 2011 by Joe R | Posted in Other - Home & Garden

One day I go into my bathroom and see this brown powder all over the toilet top and everywhere. It almost looks like makeup but I just noticed that the ceiling fan has some brown on it so its coming from that. Does anybody know what the heck this stuff

Most likely it is duct. It drys out after being sucked into the fan and then falls.

Bathroom venting in older brick home may be costly, but options exist

31.12.69
First, if the bathroom is over a crawl space or basement, there may be a way to install a wall-mounted fan and run ductwork through the floor and out that way. I have no way of knowing if that's possible without seeing the house, so I would contact a heating and ventilation contractor, not a general contractor, and take one more try at seeing if that or some other method might be possible for getting a... Assuming both those things are true, I can understand the difficulty a contractor would face when installing a ventilation fan. A: I'm going to make a couple of assumptions here, based on what you're telling me. One is that there's no attic space above this bathroom that the contractor can run a vent through to get to the outside, and the other is that home has solid brick... Having to find a way to route the ductwork from an interior bathroom through walls and then through solid brick is labor-intensive and therefore expensive. One of the box stores told her to scrub the walls and then apply a mold prevention coating over the well-dried walls.
