Don't last, warranty practically useless
I bought mine at the local big-box home improvement store. It is used in my heated basement, which I want extra-dry as my firearms and other sensitive items are stored there. After six months it started making a lot of noise. I checked it and found that the cooling coils were completely iced up, totally blocking the air flow. I let it defrost completely and tried again, with the same icing resulting after a few hours. I checked the manual. which gave "room temperature is too low" as the cause. Doubtful, I thought, but it is winter and only about 60 degrees in here. So I waited to spring and tried again. Now there is no cooling effect at all, and no water output. Obviously the icing was from the cooling fluid leaking, and finally it all leaked out resulting in the total lack of operation. This is my second Frigidaire dehumidifier. The first had a fan motor failure after six months.Obviously Frigidaire is no longer synonymous with quality.By...
This dehumidifier does the trick

Works like a sponge--but needs a modification for hose drainage
This unit sucks water from the air by the gallons. I set it up in my finished basement and right out of the box it worked great. So well, in fact, I needed to empty the large capacity tank too often. So I opened up the back hose valve, connected a short garden hose and pointed it to the floor drain. The unit kept filling up the tank and did not drain out the hose :-(. It appears that the hose drain in the back just works on gravity--there's no pump. So if the floor is not level and/or if the hose is a little narrower than the male connector on the back of the unit (as most are) the water will not drain through the hose the valve. The fault is poor product design. To remedy, I bought a right-angle PVC adapter, barb adapter and clear tubing (to visually see whether it was working) from Flex PVC.com. Parts: "508-007 FGH by .75 FPT (female NPT) 90degree", "PPN46 3/4 mpt x 1/2 barb adapter", and "1/2 x 5/8 Clear Tubing BTF". The right angle adapter is large and maintains the 3/4"...

Continous Drain Does Not Work As Advertised
I putchased this unit as it was specified as having three features I wanted in a basement unattended dehumidifier a) auto restart on power failure b) continous gravity drain and c) automatic defrost. When I received the unit and hooked up the continous drain hose the unit continued to fill up its bucket and auto stop when the bucket filled up. I checked several times to make sure I had hooked up the auto drain as per istructions which were very straight forward. Finally convinced I had hooked up the hose correctly I called Danby customer care in Toronto. Got through to them very quickly. The person I spoke with explained that, yes, this model was having " manufacturing problems" and many units were not auto draining, but they were working on a "fix". He offered to take my name and mail me the fix as soon as it was out. When I asked him how long the fix has been worked on and when it would be available , he responded " for several months" and " any week now". Well not willing...
Lasted one summer and is Noisy
Warning. I purchased a Danby dehumidifier after excellent consumer report reviews and research. It worked GREAT for one summer. But by fall I noticed this thing wasn't working as good. I saw less water being drawn out. I thought it was because temperatures were dropping in Chicago, so I packed it up for the winter. Well spring comes and it didn't work at all. I called Danby and they stated to send it to a local shop. I searched for days to find a shop. Most companies stated it just takes too long to get parts from Danby and they stopped doing repairs. After calling Danby again, I found a shop in North Chicago area, I live in the south suburbs. So I packed this heavy piece of machinery, yes it weighs about 80 pounds, in my CUV and fought traffic on the Dan Ryan. Got a call back a few days later stating the warranty wasn't valid and it would cost around $150 to repair. Luckily the owner was legit and stated that these things never last long. He gets many complaints and he...
Danby is a QUALITY product
I spent a lot of time doing research about dehumidifiers online, and also reading articles about many brands.I ultimately settled on this Danby 70 pint unit, and that was most certainly the right decision.I have a 2400 sq ft Cape Cod style home with a full basement.Although we live higher up on a hillside, there are some minor hydraulic water problems in the soil immediately surrounding the concrete foundation. When there is a considerable amount of rain, we occasionally get small damp spots, or in the case of a rainstorm, puddles coming up from the floor, as well as a musty odor.My old, heavy dehumidifier worked well enough, but was somewhat costly to run from an energy standpoint. This unit was well thought out, extremely well designed, works perfectly, is fairly quiet (my old unit sounded like a B737 at takeoff) and has the best overall reputation. This unit is light enough to maneuver around, and has a handy see through tank level indicator...

Initial impression was outstanding... but time has proved me wrong...
UPDATE 05/19/12 - I attempted to disassemble the unit yesterday evening, but the bucket would not come out, and there was a silver dollar sized patch of ice on the outside of the unit near where the gravity drain nozzle is on the interior. I turned off the unit and left it to thaw overnight. This morning, I went down and removed the housing and everything appeared to be normal. So, I reassembled the unit, but left the left hand hold insert out, so I could see inside the unit. I plugged it in and let it run for several hours, and it became apparent that what is happening is that the defrost function is no longer working (which is the same problem that my previous dehumidifier developed), so ice is forming and blocking the drainage through the elbow that either drains into the bucket, or the gravity drain hose, depending on if the drain hose is connected. The design of the unit is such that, if the normal drain path is obstructed, there is an "overflow" drain hole on the opposite...
Effective, quiet, well-designed
This is my newest Sunpentown dehumidifier. I got my first (an SD-60E) almost 2 years ago. I've used many home dehumidifiers (Hampton Bay, Maytag, Fedders, Amana, Whirlpool) over many years. My two Sunpentowns are the most effective by any measure. Their water buckets are bigger, yet need to be emptied as often or more, even when used in the basement where temperatures are lower and many dehumidifiers lose effectiveness. I can now keep my whole house under 45% with only two dehumidifiers where I used to need three. Also, they're quieter, which is very important. At first I worried that they occasionally seemed to run unnecessarily, but I now realize they're smart devices and sometimes move air (with compressor off) just to monitor it better. They don't need to be reset after a power failure. The filters are easy to remove and vacuum. Also, readings are more accurate than on older models. One very minor complaint: I could wish for a pause button (off for an hour, then...
Great product
I purchased SPT SD-65E 65 pint dehumidifier in October after my home was nearly flooded. The water came up to within 5 inches of coming into my house. All of my insulation and ductwork had to be torn out. Under my house had to be sprayed 3 times with clorox mixture to prevent mold. I knew there was a lot of moisture inside my home. The first week I used the dehumidifier, I emptied the tank 14 times in SIX days. The humidity level is now maintained at a steady 45 to 50%. It is efficient and very quiet except when it goes into defrost mode. I am using it now in conjunction with my gas logs to control the humidity level. I am very pleased with the operation of the Sunpentown SD-65E. I have reccommended it to many people since I received mine. Thank you for such an efficient product. Jack Jarvis, Washington, NC

[...]I received this unit free of charge because my old unit failed AND because I registered that purchase online at the Frigidaire website.I originally purchased the Frigidaire 50-pint humidifier (Model FDF50S1) in June of 2009 [i.e. the 2009 version of this product] through Amazon.com. The unit worked perfectly for two years then stopped dehumidifying. The unit would power on, one could change the fan speed, but the unit would not dehumidify even though the unit was set to Continuous (CO) and a hyrgrometer showed the basement room to be at 49% humidity. After contacting a local Frigidaire authorized repairer, I learned these units are considered "throwaway" meaning there are no serviceable parts (except the filter). The units are less expensive to replace than repair, so the manufacturer does not sell any replacement parts (except the filter). My 2009 system had a one year full warranty (long past) and a Years 2-5 "Sealed System" warranty (the...
Works great, unless you want to use continuous draining
I use this in my finished basement, and it does an excellent job of keeping it dry. I used it when it was 98 and humid and it did its job. I had to empty it out about two times a day. When the temperature dropped to the 70s and humidity dropped, I emptied it out about once a day. I can be away from my house a couple days at a time, so I hooked up a hose. Initially, it did not drain out of the hose, but instead continued to drain into the bucket. I took off the rear two wheels so it tips back a bit, now it drains through the hose.If you are considering purchasing this, I would look elsewhere to a product that was designed correctly instead of needing to make an adjustment. If you already purchased this, want to use continuous draining, but do not want to return it, either put some cardboard at the front of the dehumdifier, or take off the rear wheels so it will drain from the hose instead of into the bucket. Hopefully there are no other design errors with this product,...
So far so good.
Dried out my 1100sqft basement in about 36 hours. The float takes about 3 sec to install BTW.

Works great in my basement
My basement runs about 80% humidity all year round and stays about a constant 62 as well.I have had this unit running for a month and it has done everything I have asked of it.The basement is 1200 square foot and this dehumidifier has lowered the humidity to 55% which is where I have it set.I have it hosed to a drain and it is fairly loud on the high setting. The only negative I would note is the bucket seems a little flimsy if you are opting not to hose it to a drain.Actually it is the handle of the bucket that is suspect.Overall very happy with this product.
Awesome deal!
Got this unit for a great price from stacks and stacks! Great delivery time, well packaged for shipping. Unit works great so far, noise is not too bad, but it is a 70 pint, going to be louder than smaller units, as expected. I am running this in my utility room of an otherwise finished basement, so I am usually not in the same room with it trying to watch TV or listen to music.I always seem to over-research things like this before buying, glad I did this time, perfectly happy with this unit and would definitely recommend the product and the seller!
WORKS! Really, really, really well!
I bought the dehumidifier about a month ago, and have been using it in my incredibly humid bedroom. It removes a LOT of moisture in the air up there. The space is about 400 sq feet, and there is no more condensation on any of the windows, not even the ones all the way across the room from it.I don't recommend running it at night though, as it will dehumidify YOU! It's also a bit noisy and blows cold air. But it has really helped a LOT in keeping mold at bay, especially, which is something we worry about here in the Pacific NW.It is very easy to empty, and on average probably removes at least two gallons of air from the room a DAY.-H
