Works great!
I installed this unit in my basement about 8 months ago, and it has been working flawlessly ever since. Things I noticed: If the power goes out, the unit will NOT turn back on automatically (as some other units do.) If you want to use the continuous drainage (which I highly recommend) via a hose, you have to punch out a plastic disc on the side of the unit. I would have designed a screw-type plug that was replacable, but they didn't think of that. Anyway, once you punch the quarter-size disc out it's out forever. If you choose to use the continuous drainage feature, you will need to pick up a hose with an inner diameter of 15mm (.59" or just over half an inch.) I went to the local DIY center and found some clear tubing that has worked well. The unit can operate down to 2-degrees C (36-degrees F), which will be great for continuous operation in the garage to keep the tools from rusting. Has three fan...
Works well
I purchased this dehumidifier for mainly basement use, but wanted one quiet enough for use upstairs if needed. And, boy is this thing quiet. My refrigerator is louder. I also own a Fedders 45 pint unit and a Whirlpool 65 pint noise maker. The Fedders (Maytag) was the quiet champ untill I purchased the Soleus Air CFM-40E. The Whirlpool removes an amazing amount of water, but can be heard UPSTAIRS when running in the basement. So it is used only when needed. The Soleus Air is so quiet I have to go down the basement stairs and visually check to see if the unit is on. Can't say that for many dehumidifiers. My only complaint is that the fan is always on, even when it has reached the set humidity level. This prevents the short cycling the others do, on for 2 minutes off for 2 minutes or so, but I think prevents an Energy Star certification. At 2.9 amps it draws significantly less than the Fedders 5.6 amps and the Whirlpool's 7.9 amps. The Soleus Air works great (so...
Excellent balance of efficiency and effectiveness
I currently have 5 dehumidifiers in different locations, and this one is the strikes the best balance of efficiency, reliability, effectiveness, and quietness. There are other models that can pull more moisture out of the air more quickly, but they are invariably much louder and MUCH more expensive to run.

Initial impression is outstanding...
UPDATE 08/09/11 - Bad John requested an update... so here goes... after 4 months, still very satisfied. During the colder months, it never really did go much lower than 48% when the temperature was around 60 in the basement, it got down to around 45% RH and that was as good as it could do. Although 45% humidity at 60 degrees was certainly acceptable. For the past few weeks we have had outdoor temperatures running between 80 and nearly 100 degrees with beastly humidity (at least for the northeast). My basement has been in the mid to upper 70's and I have the control on the dehumidifier set for 45%. It is currently 75 degrees and 40% humidity, at least according to the thermometer/hygrometer sitting on the shelf 3 feet away from the unit. The unit cycles off and on rather frequently, but it does not run continuously, although that is obviously a very subjective observation that would be influenced by outdoor and indoor temperatures, RH, rainfall, and water infiltration into the...
Effective, quiet, well-designed
This is my newest Sunpentown dehumidifier. I got my first (an SD-60E) almost 2 years ago. I've used many home dehumidifiers (Hampton Bay, Maytag, Fedders, Amana, Whirlpool) over many years. My two Sunpentowns are the most effective by any measure. Their water buckets are bigger, yet need to be emptied as often or more, even when used in the basement where temperatures are lower and many dehumidifiers lose effectiveness. I can now keep my whole house under 45% with only two dehumidifiers where I used to need three. Also, they're quieter, which is very important. At first I worried that they occasionally seemed to run unnecessarily, but I now realize they're smart devices and sometimes move air (with compressor off) just to monitor it better. They don't need to be reset after a power failure. The filters are easy to remove and vacuum. Also, readings are more accurate than on older models. One very minor complaint: I could wish for a pause button (off for an hour, then...
Great product
I purchased SPT SD-65E 65 pint dehumidifier in October after my home was nearly flooded. The water came up to within 5 inches of coming into my house. All of my insulation and ductwork had to be torn out. Under my house had to be sprayed 3 times with clorox mixture to prevent mold. I knew there was a lot of moisture inside my home. The first week I used the dehumidifier, I emptied the tank 14 times in SIX days. The humidity level is now maintained at a steady 45 to 50%. It is efficient and very quiet except when it goes into defrost mode. I am using it now in conjunction with my gas logs to control the humidity level. I am very pleased with the operation of the Sunpentown SD-65E. I have reccommended it to many people since I received mine. Thank you for such an efficient product. Jack Jarvis, Washington, NC

Dehumidifier from EdgeStart 40 pint portable
Unit is working well so far in my basement. I think it was a good choice. Simple set up. Be sure to wait 24 hours before you plug it in, the fluid in it needs to settle properly. Pretty quiet. Does not freeze up below 65 degrees like my prior unit did. Good unit and I would recommend.
dehumidifier
I bought this dehumidifier for a large closet with a dampness problem. It regularly pulls enough water from the space to need emptying every few days and the air feels better. Before the dehumidifier I had to throw out a pair of boots that moldered regularly - to the point I couldn't keep them clean - and fabric that developed unpleasant smells. I like the small size and the ease of moving. My only gripe is that it is so noisy that I turn it off at night. However it works so well that i am very glad that I bought it.
Better than expected
My husband is the dehumidifier expert in our family, so I can only go by what he says and what I observe. We have had this unit for only a week, so I cannot attest to it's longevity. But that it does what it's expected to do is beyond question. Our basement is very humid and the smell was getting to be pretty bad. Within 24 hours that musty, dank odor was eliminated. It's already taken about 10 gallons of water out of the air and made the basement dry and bearable. And it's quiet - can't hear it running at all upstairs (and the door is open, as we have several cats). So I highly recommend this unit for anyone who has damp issues in their home.

How long should I run my dehumidifier?

Oct 10, 2006 by nickdanger22802 | Posted in Allergies

I just bought a 40 pint dehumidifier for my 400 sq ft efficiency apartment, which is actually in a basement.

The dehumidifier has a setting for humidy % desired, as I'm sure they all do, but I don't know if it will shut itself off immediately,

I also have a humidifier which I can set for either 2hrs. or 4hrs. The machine (mine) shuts off at which of the 2 settings I use. If your humidifier doesn't have this feature then just run it for either 2 or 4 hours per 24 hour period. I also can set

Faulty Dehumidifier Question?

Jul 26, 2007 by joe525us | Posted in Other - Home & Garden

I have a GE 40 Pint Dehumidifier that often has a faulty shutoff switch. It's supposed to turn on by itself when the humidity gets to a certain point, and then shut off when the air gets drier in the room. It often works OK but often times it doesn't

Hello,

This is a key problem with GE humidifers. Try Riello brand.

What To consider When Purchasing A Snow Thrower

Source: Snow Blower 2 Stage

An all weather coating is primary is the cord is to remain flexible in cold weather. If you go electric, it is good to check the power cord provided. If you opt to go this way, it is good to pick one that was well maintained by the previous owner. However, there are separate ways you can employ to ensure you get a good deal. This eliminates the need to deal with petrol in cold weather. Some of the areas you need to couple on comprise the belts, which must be tight and in good shape. Finally, the tires have to be in good shape. Another leading observation is the weight of the snow thrower might seem like a huge cost. If you have grounded power outlets on the surface parts of your house such as the garage, electricity can be more appealing. If any of these parts has a problem, it should be factored in the cost price....
