Improve your froth
Not a bad thermometer for making the perfect froth for your cappucino. Pluses: Temp range for perfect milk temperature highlighted (140-160 deg. F), reasonably priced. Minuses: It should include a plastic protector tube (to prevent inadvertant stabbings...), and it would be nice if the temp gauge went down to 80 degrees. To get a good froth, try dancing the steam wand at the top of the milk until the temp reaches 100 deg.F. As the foam rises, follow it up. At 100 deg.F, push the wand down into the milk until the temp reaches 140-160 deg.F. Have fun!
Good quality but poor functionality
I own several other Taylor thermometers and they are all very good quality items for their price range. However, this thermometer, though its quality is fine, lacks the temperature markings (i.e., it does not even go down to 100 F!) needed to perfect the steamed milk or frothed milk needed for lattes, cappucinos, or macchiatos. As one of the previous reviewers mentioned, once the temperature reaches 100 F, you should move the steam wand from the surface to the bottom. This is an essential step to get the perfect "microfoam" (not big soap bubbles) that makes for a fantastic latte or cappucino. Bottom line: find a thermometer that has easy to read numbers, a clip, and temperature that goes down to at least 100, but preferably lower.
Perfect for froth making
This is an excellent constructed thermometer for making perfect froth. Indicator is tightly sealed and no fogging. And solid stainless-steel construction. I bought it a month ago and have no complain. Make sure you only need it for making froth and not other usages. If you look at the picture, you'll see the it only works at temperature from 120-180F. Good quality and nice price.

RECESSION SPECIAL!
I've had this machine for over a year. I have tried other machines, even a pump. It makes good cappuccinos/lattes when the milk is steamed properly at the right temperature. If your only into espresso shots, I would go with a pump.PROS-Inexpensive, Small-Frother is strong, plastic tip is removable-Quiet (then a pump machine)-Latte art hearts (SEE picture)CONS-Supplied tamper is just a slightly flattened end of the coffee scooper.-No frothing pitcher.-Multiple shots requires de-pressuring the machine.NOTESThere seems to be a lot of reviews stating it works fine in the beginning then after a while has poor performance or just stops. Ive noticed that during regular use, water starts to build up in the tank. This is because you never really use all the water in the tank per brew. This excess water I believe causes it to brew slow. What I do to alleviate this, is brew plain water all out into a cup before I...
Great Buy
Love this product. I read all the other reviews before buying, so I knew it didn't come with a steaming pitcher and ordered one to go with it. However, I didn't realize that it didn't come with an espresso tamper either. I would have ordered one had I known, now I have to wait for the one I ordered to come in and hope it fits this machine. Would have given it 5 stars, but as a former barista, I know that to make a good latte I need a steaming pitcher and a tamper. So for an espresso machine not to come with these items is like getting a pair of sneakers with no laces. I have had no problem with leaking, and as long as the user READS THE INSTRUCTIONS, they shouldn't have any problems either. For $40, I've already gotten my money's worth in the last week. And anyone interested in buying, I would say "GO FOR IT!!!" but order a steaming pitcher and espresso tamper along with it.Note: P.S. Get a 49mm espresso tamper to go with it. Doesn't fit "perfectly" but its as close as I...
don't buy a $300 espresso machine, buy this one
I bought this at Targét for $29, and it is freaking awesome. To the two reviewers above... if you actually read the manual you would know that the cord underneath the base can be unraveled to the desired length. This is to eliminate excess cord on your countertop.Anyway, I discovered I was spending almost $200 at Starbucks... a near crack habit. My previous espresso machine broke over the summer--a $300 Gaggia. Prior to the gaggia I had a krups. So I plunked down a few bucks for this one knowing I was taking a wee gamble. Usually you get what you pay for.Let me tell ya, this little machine is great. First, it is super super quiet. My previous machines were deafening especially when frothing. Secondly, it takes up little space. Third, it's fairly nice looking and matches our coffee maker. And of course last, it makes great lattés.So, don't waste your money on some huge hulking espresso machine that will only last a few years...

Expensive and worth every penny!
I recently purchased this KitchenAid KPCG 100 Pro Line Series Burr Coffee Mill, after sorting through numerous coffee grinder reviews when my Baratza Maestro Plus burned up. My first coffee grinder, 30 years ago, was a blade grinder that worked, even better if you shook it while grinding, but had many limitations and was fairly inconsistent in grinding. My next, 25 years ago, was a Braun burr grinder that was certainly better than the blade grinder but not particularly consistent in grind size or capacity. Then 7 years ago I bought a Baratza Maestro Plus (branded under Solis) that was a very good grinder for French Press and Drip. It would do expresso but not consistently like a Rocky Rancilio--which was more than double the cost of the Maestro Plus.I decided to try the KPCG 100 which is a second version of the original. I selected it because you could thoroughly clean it, take it apart with a screwdriver and allen wrench, adjust the burr grinders, the ground coffee...

Very Pleased!! After 3 years of use
I take this unit on vacation with us - I use it at home - I take it to over nighters anywhere.I see some reviews that say it has no temp adjustment - well, it simply would be useless if it did.Pour in the batter and set the timer for 3 min 45 seconds and two waffles are done to perfection - each time and everytime. It has never failed after hundreds of wafflesI also see some noise about it being large and bulky - well, if you want a heavy duty machine that will out last you, this is what you get. I have no trouble taking it everywhere. The best unit ever!PS: The very best waffle mix is the malted mix from Williams Sonoma - wow! I am going to make some now . . .
Well worth it
We have a couple of other Kitchenaid products, so I knew this waffle baker would be built like a tank. The instructions were well written and pretty straightforward. It is simple to operate and the waffles I made this morning came out great. I used a basic waffle recipe (you can get mixes, but it only take a few minutes to make it from scratch). I started out with the timer (which is very simple to operate) set to 4 minutes; this was good but the waffles wanted to stick just a tiny bit, so I tried setting at 4.5 minutes, which was perfect. The waffles were delicious, and HUGE. Yes, you can make a lot of waffles very quickly, but really, you only need to make a few of these waffles to feed a crowd. I made 5 waffles this morning for six people (four young kids, two adults), and had one whole waffle left over. The waffles separate into quarters very easily, and one quarter is definitely a good bit for one plate. If I could give it 6 stars, i would.
KitchenAid Pro Line Series Waffle Baker
KitchenAid Pro Line Series Waffle BakerI recommend the purchase of this waffle baker.I purchased the baker from Amazon.com using bonus points on 12/18/10. S&H was included which is one of the reasons I like using Amazon. Plus, the price was right.I received the unit via UPS in three days after ordering. Even though it was Christmas time, Amazon was just as fast as I usually find them. The packaging was excellent and the package was received unscathed.Cons.The unit is made in China. I find that a little disappointing as the stainless steel and workmanship is good, but not the same quality as products made in the USA.There were a few small scratches on various places to the unit. But, not to the extent that it is worth returning for a different unit. The waffle make unit does not sit level in the cradle and has to be adjusted to insure that it is level. When turning the unit it will go just a little beyond level...

Not really espresso
I got this little machine as I'm always in Starbucks. I wanted a nice little alternative for nights and weekends when I felt like having an espresso based drink without having to drive to a coffee shop and shell out cash.First, the good points of this machine:-It's small, so you can easily store it inside a cabinet. It's not bad looking, however, so if you can sacrifice a little counter space, that works just as well.-The machine is very simple to use. I have my own bean grinder, but you can get yours ground at Starbucks if you buy it there. You simply scoop the beans into the holder, screw into the machine, put water in the reservoir, turn on, and there you go.-It's relatively quick to brew the espresso and it doesn't take too long to clean most of the parts. Now, the bad:-The biggest issue I've had with this machine is that it basically brews strong coffee, not espresso. I've tried a variety of ways of packing the beans, etc, but...
Good starter machine
I received the Mr. Coffee Espresso/Cappuccino Maker as a gift. Obviously it's not going to produce the same results as some of the more expensive models but I think it works well enough for personal use. It's very simple to use-it only has two functions: brew or steam.I noticed that several people commented about leaking and the instructions warn that this can occur if there are grounds around the top of the filter or if you over-fill the filter. The frothing arm is very short but I found a small frothing pitcher at World Market that works well. As far as worrying about aluminum in your espresso, the instructions also warn that you shouldn't leave water in the reservoir when you're not using the machine. The only other thing to remember is that you MUST de-pressurize the system before removing the filter holder or water reservoir cap!! To do this, unplug the machine, wait for it to cool off, then turn the knob to "steam" until you hear the hissing stop.I think...
Beware - Dangerous Machine - Mine Exploded
I used this espresso machine a couple times a week for about 3 years and liked it a lot; however, yesterday morning I was frothing the milk and it exploded. I looked at the cap (over the water reservoir) and it was split. Scalding water shot out of that split, luckily it went all over the wall and not toward me. If you have this machine, consider releasing the pressure from the water reservoir after every use and the cap may last longer, but I for one am switching brands. This scared the heck out of me and after looking online, I see that it has happened to others. Be aware.

Who in Austin/San Antonio sells gaggia or rancillio espresso machines?

Apr 21, 2006 by ironbyghte | Posted in Non-Alcoholic Drinks

I can't find anybody and their websites do not list retailers. All of the upscale retail shops only sell overpriced super-consumerized espresso-like machines (like the Kitchen Aid), and I'm sure that I do not want the Starbucks Barista.

Would you consider ordering online? You can get them at the links below (among others). Or see if a specialty shop in your area can get one? Like L'Aglio in Katy TX? Or Williams Sonoma in Austin?

I only receive flyers on Friday when I get home from work (yes, I look forward to my big package of flyers I signed up for :) ). So you can see why I am so confused. Yet, no matter how tricked my brain was, I am here at work and there are other people here, so it is in fact, only Friday today lol. People kept sending emails about not being in on Tuesday (if that's the case--just email me on Friday before the long weekend. Last night after work, I drove out to Embrun to the house where my parents and Ty had been all day. All day yesterday felt like Friday. ) and I even got home and my package of flyers was on the deck....
