Great product, filter availability/price a problem
We've been running two of these units at home for six months now. The amount of garbage they pull out of the air is amazing. The unit is reasonably quiet on setting 2 and much too loud on 3. I'm not sure it is moving enough air on setting 1 to accomplish much.The only disappointment is the high price of the filters -- if you can find them. Online sources are much more reasonable, but availability seems spotty. I'm hoping this will improve moving forward.

Works great - read how to make them LAST a LONG time!
These filters work great in the 3M units which are MUCH better than ionizer air filters. The big problem people have with using the air purifiers is filter replacement costs.At my Practical, Healthy Stuff blog, I detail how to make the Filtrete filters really last! Basically, you attach the inexpensive, carbon prefilters from Honeywell (available here on Amazon) to the filter with velcro tape. These carbon filters are the exact right size, and they capture larger dust and gunk, as well as filter out chemicals and odors.Oh yeah, like they say here, vacuum each regularly and you may get over a year's use from them!

i could not find this item any place in my town found it on amazon and had it in a few day's , any time i order from amazon i recieve what i order in about a week or less and i live in alaska. i have never been disapointed with any item price wise or otherwise.

I recommend this air cleaner
I have suffered from allergies all of my life, but especially the last few years, they have gotten progressively worse. Last year, I lived in an apartment over two chain smokers and was constantly congested. I started researching air purifiers because my medications weren't helping enough on their own. I ended up deciding on this unit for my living room/dining area, a Hamilton Beach 04163 for my bedroom, and another Hamilton Beach 04163 to go on the other side of my living room as well since the living room/dining area/kitchen was all together and not separated by doors and was too large an area for only one cleaner to handle efficiently. I have been very satisfied with this unit. I got it in December 2004 and it has not given me any problems. I have had to change the pre-filters a few times (you usually have to change them every three months or so) but have not yet had to change the HEPA filter. Great for cigarette smoke,pollen,pet hair,pollen you name it.
Let me start off by saying that I suffer from being allergic to cigarette smoke and my husband and I live in an enclosed apartment complex. This is made worse by the fact that the front door doesn't seal up against the frame and smoke from the hallway leaks into our apartment with other odors and smells. Now let me add that that my husband suffers from severe allergy's and takes medicine daily for his condition. Did I mention that we have two cats and a pug. Life was miserable in our 2 bedroom 2 bath apartment, till this little puppy showed up. It's just like the picture describes it, like a barrel, the nice feature on it is the Intellicheck, this little feature tells you when to change the filters and it's quite easy the pre filters just lay on the hepa filter and are held in place by two pieces of Velcro. Not a good cabin filter in the cold climate
I bought this cabin filter for a 2006 Toyota 4Runner; at first it was good by having a more pleasant smelling car. Problems started to arise when the cold winter in Minneapolis arrived, specifically when I went through a warm and humid car wash. My theory is the carbon was cold and when it met the warm moist air condensation formed on the filter making it wet. The wet filter nearly blocked all airflow into the cabin causing the fan to work harder and the windows on the inside became fogged over. I removed the filter, dried with a hairdryer and reinserted filter. When it happened a 2nd time I removed the filter and bought another non carbon filter.This is the reason for my 2 star rating.

Great filter, great price
After being told the Toyota dealer wanted $70 to replace my Prius cabin air filter, I went online and found a YouTube video on how to replace it. Bought this filter, with a $6 rebate and no shipping charge for two, which is far superior to the original equipment (more pletes, carbon and baking soda filtration) -- and it fit perfectly in the existing tray. It took me less than one minute to replace the filter. It was so easy.

A definite step up from the stock filter
I highly recommend this filter as a better alternative to the factory part. Although there's nothing wrong with the stock Toyota filter, the addition of activated charcoal and baking soda reduce the odors reaching the cabin from an often-smelly highway. It may not eliminate the most noxious pollutants, but it does help. BTW, I avoid Fram's oil filters, but they seem to manufacture good air filters, both for the ventilation system and for the engine.

Very High Ozone Output, but CHEAP Design
After reading all the reviews, I splurged and bought one of these newer units with the "Always ON" feature for an old 1800 sq/ft house. It worked great removing the horrible stench of a dead squirrel in one of the walls that lingered for weeks even after removing the carcass. Bleach and deodorizers had very little affect especially with the high humidity.For the first week, it worked great. I decided to use the "Always ON" feature while I stayed at a friend's place for the weekend. When I came back a day later, I noticed it was not outputting any ozone. The plate inside the unit was not lighting up usual purple so I contacted Sylvan, and they advised me to clean off the Ozone Plate. So I opened it up, and noticed a fruit fly on the plate. I wiped it off with some rubbing alcohol and it revived the dead unit, but it was flickering on and off and parts of the plate were not lighting up. After contacting Sylvan, they agreed to send me replacement ozone plate which I told them...

Does what it is meant to do
This is my very first review ever on anything, but the product warranted my input. Asthetically, it is not much to look at. However, it does what it says it does. I live in a row Townhouse condo complex and live next door to smokers. Unfortunately, they smoke in the basement, and the smell travels through the spaces left open by the common pipes that run through each unit, making my laundry room and rec room literally stink as if there were 10 people sitting in the laundry room smoking. After much confrontation, they have ceased smoking, however, the residue of the nicotine stuck on all my possessions in the storage area of my laundry room. I had tried vinegar, bleach, air purifier... anything I could think of to remove/reduce the smell. Our restoration company told us about the industrial ozone generators they use to eradicate smoke smell after a fire. After reviewing many models on-line, I finally broke down and purchased this generator. Got it yesterday and ran it for 1/2...

Outstanding product!
I suppose if Russian military would set out to design an ionizer it would look like this - an unassuming looking black metal box with a couple of switches and virtually no labeling, very basic looking. Performance, however is truly mind-blowing - a 1000 sq. ft. area with 9 ft ceilings was completely clear of mold in two one hour treatments. Read and follow the enclosed instructions - this is not an ionizer you'd run continuously, it's way too powerful for that. I would recommend this product to anyone, it's not cheap but you get what you pay for.

Try the Advanced Allergen filter if you have allergies or pets
I found this Amazon product page while looking for information on furnace problems and this filter.We've been using the red "micro" Filtrete filters for years. This was our first try with the purple "Ultra" filters. I tried one in December, and removed it today (January 3, 2010).It cut our heating ability by at least 40%!With the red Filtrete, we have at least 92 degrees of heating ability: if we set the thermostat at 72, the house maintains 72, even when the outside "ambient" temperature (the average of the day's low and high) is -20 degrees F.Yesterday and today, we lost the ability to maintain temperature. On a day with an average temperature of 10 degrees F (low of 5, high of 15) the house dropped to 65 degrees. So, instead of being able to heat the house to at least 90 degrees above the outside temperature, we are down to only 55 degrees.The FAQ on the 3M site glosses over this problem."Do I have to worry...
