simply awsome and under ratedFirst off, I admit I was hesitant about buying this heater because of all the negitive reviews. But my wife told me to buy it and give it a shot. I'm so glad I did. It works better than great and I was shocked on how fast it heated up our pool. We have what we call our starter pool. It is an Intex 48inches X 18 foot. We just filled the pool about a week ago and already the pool has been heated up to 68 degrees and each day the temp raises a bit more. We just have one for now and planning on getting a second one soon to heat the pool up more. With that said, I have several tips that you should do to make sure it works just as well as mine. For your reading convience i created a check list for you: 1. make sure you have a good pump/filter system. If you have an Intex pool with that sub-par pump/filter that came with it...I can't stress enough to get rid of it and upgrade to a better pool pump and filter. Not only will you have cleaner water, but it will heat better. if...
Poor quality and leaks.
Purchased the AquaLivin' Solar Heater and it burst apart at the seams within a week of installing it. Also, the heater is designed with fittings that the water hose fits on. Water leaks out of both fittings where the fitting fits onto the body of the heater....should have been designed to where the fitting was molded into the body. The heater has a clear dome that goes over the top of the unit. On the third day I noticed that the clear dome kept popping off of the heater when the pump was on...when the pump was off it would fit perfectly. About two days later the heater burst at the seam. Luckily my pool pump didn't burn up when all of my water drained out down to the skimmer. If you do purchase one of these always keep an eye on the clear dome to make sure it doesn't pop off...this is a sign it may be getting ready to burst. The company was very good about sending me a replacement. I haven't installed the replacement yet.
May never know if it heats the pool!
We received the 2 ordered heaters in the beginning of April. There were parts missing from both boxes! 6 weeks later with 6+ phone calls to Aquaquik to have these parts shipped and mutiple promises that they would send them out immediately, we still do not have the parts! Enough is enough, these will be returned and we will never purchase a product from Aquaquik again. Good concept if they came from a reputable company.

Great little heater!We purchased this heater on Amazon.com. My teenagers put it together and it was very easy to do. We love it! We have had a cold spring and the pool can now be a few degree hotter than our outside temperature. We absolutely love it and I would recommend it.
Pieces don't fit together.
I just purchased this device. $169 at local pool supply store. I cannot tell if it works. It's not very sophisticated and seems simple to assemble, but a crucial piece (side connector - connects heater to tube that leads to filter) does not fit into the main piece. It is supposed to easily slide in, turn 1/4, and lock into place. I'll have to modify it slightly to make it work. Disappointing.

i GOT THIS HEAter late LAST SEASON - IT WORKED, SORT OF. HOOKED IT UP TODAY AND IT LEAKED BIG TIME ON THE TOP, NOT ONE OF THE CONNECTIONS IT WAS STORED INDOORS - IT DID NOT FREEZE. IT IS JUNK!!

Buyer Beware!I bought this brand of heater for my above ground pool last year. I immediately started having problems. The unit started leaking before I had the gas installed! Then, the Hayward company made accusations that the alkalinity in my pool water may have caused the problem. There was no problems with my chemically balanced pool water! I could see it was a factory defect in the solder of the copper tubing. Anyway, I replaced the heat exchanger, and it seemed OK. Now, just a few months later... the heater will not work! The unit will not ignite and it is wasting gas! I attempted to resolve the situation by contacting the pool store, in which they informed me to contact a Hayward representative. After several attempts, I was unable to contact someone/anyone at Hayward. I tried to get some information from the Hayward web site... completely useless. Then trying to find someone to service this particular unit... they complained about this model H100ID1. They said they have had numerous...
Bad Design
I have replaced the heater core twice, going on my third time. The first was due to "bad pool chemistry". The second and third were due to a bad design in the inlet/outlet copper tube. It made a rattling noise because a peice of metal came loose in it. DO NOT BUY this item.
piece of junk
read the reviews on this product, they are all very true and accurate. I also bought one of these brand new thinking that i wouldn't have problems with a new unit. First month major leak in heat exchanger drained 1/2 my pool. Next won't ignite, then another leak. Oh now it is out of 1 year warranty. Hayward says bad pool chemistry. Now after fixing all the problems myself, the thing won't light again. Piece of junk. Never buy this unit if you are wise.

Buyer Beware!We purchased this heater for a 10,000 gallon pool in NJ. We installed it in July and used through September, didn't reopen the pool until the following May. When we did, heater made a clanking noise so we called the local Hayward service place, who came out for $125 even though it was under 1 year old, and told that it was probably the heat exchanger. She explained the tech comes out for $125, diagnoses the problem, then comes back for another $125 plus parts plus $60 an hour. I told them just bring the heat exchanger with them the 1st time. What a scam. Upon inspection they advised the heat exchanger was gone due to improper water chemistry, when I argued that they said I needed the receipts from a pool store showing my water was tested every 7-10 days by professionals, not the strips you do yourself at home. OK I said, live and learn...$600 later I had a new heat exchanger and a warm pool. Throughout the summer I had the water tested regularly, just like...
Garbage
We bought this heater three years ago. We have a 24' round above ground pool. I knew this was a bit undersized, however, I just wanted something to "take the edge off". Worked well the first year. At the end of season 2 a "clunking" noise began. Sounded like a rock was in the heater, however, when the heater was not in use, we had no "clunking". Clearly a heater issue. Well beyond any warranty, and noticing the repair costs, my buddy and I decided to strip it down this past winter to find any problems or particles that may be the cause. No luck. Season 3 proved to be no different. Still clunking. I eventually decided to let it run till it broke down. My pool chemicals have been spot on every year since we've had the pool (5 years). Still not to sure about a Hayward product. Going to buy a new heater for next season. Stay away !!!

What is the difference between an inground and above ground pool heater?

A heater is a heater.
Keep in mind that you have the top of the pool open to the atmosphere to loose heat just like an in ground pool and you also have all the sides loosing heat to the atmosphere too.

Rainy-day fun
The restaurant, prepared for changeable weather, provided us not only with blankets but also with a heater. That was good enough for Sasha and me, so we went swimming right away, trying to splash the water out of the little above-ground pool by jumping into it. (We failed. ) After swimming, we ate and ate, and then Sasha swam some more while the rest of us photographed ourselves under fake palm trees. Elena and Sasha wanted to take us to a restaurant next to a water ski area, where we could have a private poolside cabana and eat vast amounts of shashleek (sheesh-kebab) and other Belarusian traditional foods. Last weekend the weather turned against us but we went swimming anyway....
